Procedure to follow in the event of a child going missing from the Youth Centre
§ 3 members of staff take all children into End Room. Recount children and check register. Check possible hiding places in the End Room.
§ Deploy remaining 3 members of staff:-
1 search store cupboard, toilets, kitchen and front room
1 search main hall and outside garden play area (to the side)
1 search outside area to the front of the building (close door behind you), including side paths. If the main gate is open alert the other 2 and search the car park and look along The Broadway.
§ Leader ring parent and member of staff ring the police on 999 – ask for the Police and report child missing from Laleham Church Playgroup, The Broadway, Laleham, TW18 1RZ.
Have the following information written down: time and place child last seen
description of child
what he/she was wearing
Make these calls at same time using phone in kitchen and a mobile phone.
§ Record details of the incident in the “Accident and Incident Record Book”
§ If the child has left the premises Surrey Supporting Children Team and Ofsted should be notified as soon as possible (within 48 hours).
Procedures where a child is lost on an outing;
· If it is realised that a child is no longer with the group, staff should look carefully all around without leaving the group.
· If it is not a whole setting outing the playgroup should be phoned immediately.
· If the child is not found within 10 minutes the Police will be contacted on 999
· The Supervisor will contact the parents as soon as the police have been contacted.
· The children will be returned to the Playgroup and any available staff should return to search the area.
· Supervisor will record details of the incident on the child’s page in the “Accident and Incident” Record Book.
· Inform Surrey Supporting Children Team and Ofsted as soon as possible (within 48 hours).
