Procedure to follow in the event of a child not being collected at the end of a playgroup session
2 members of staff must remain with the child until he/she is collected.
Follow this order of action until someone authorised to care for the child is reached:
- Telephone parent(s)
- Telephone the other contact numbers provided by parent
- If unable to contact anyone by 12.30pm (or 1.30pm if a child is not collected after “Lunch Club”) ring the C-SPA on 0300 470 9100 for advice
- If a parent asks a member of staff to take the child to them or to a third party, explain that it would be a personal favour at the parent’s own risk. Write down their request and ask them to repeat their instructions to the other member of staff to verify that the instructions are correct and that they understand the conditions. The written record should be signed and dated by both members of staff and signed by the parent at the first opportunity. Taxi cabs should be used if possible and the fare charged to the parent.
A written record of the action taken must be made on the child’s page in the “Accident and Incident Record Book”
